East wind sighing loud Creeks whitely swollen with snow melt
Let there be storms Merry migrant song birds chirp
Rebirth of spring delivered.
I combined two challenges and wrote a tanka.

Thursday photo prompt: Daybreak #writephoto
Rita Hayworth “Lady From Shanghai”
Standing in the mirror,
She stared at the infinite reflections,
Stretching forth into the hallway of eternity,
Each image that of another potential self,
Broodingly she pondered,
Upon that most weighty subject
Which person should she be today?
Good or Evil, Kind or Careless?
She Choose, stretched forth her hand,
Touching that fractal glass effigy,
Light flashed and She became reality.

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge: Tuesday , Today’s prompt: Use the phrase “standing in the mirror, she….” in a piece of prose or poetry. January 14, 2020:
Our corrupted keepsakes—those self-inflicted injuries
Frozen in time—crystalized chronological capsules
Editorialized memories—renovated recollections
Obscured by that-is-the-way-it-
Laundered to a state of that-is-how-I-
Substance and soul unite with the consciousness
Glossing over all the petty annoyances
Presenting brightly gleaming perfect bygones
Thus we cuddle ourselves in that comforting down
Like shattered prismatic shards
Comprised of imperfect recollections.

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge December 10, 2019
blizzard of thoughts whirled through my mind Shimmying specters of sanguinary slaughter
Souls screaming a syncopated symphony
The distinctive coppery scent of blood rich in my nose
Bittersweet taste of pain and suffering on my tongue
Feeling flesh rend and tear beneath my fingers
I guzzled all these sensations down–gulping hugely
frozen, chilled winds of wicked will That swept over my soul—erasing slate board clean
Of the deadly dulling daily drill—rigidly robotic
I supped deep from the wellspring of wickedness
Touching the underside of my perverse self
Frenziedly spiraling in a descending trajectory.

Swiftly failing memory
Trauma less retrograde amnesia
That daily duel with the doddering drudge
The friendly fog of forgetfulness
Erasing the bad with the good
The sweet soothing balm of oblivion
Kindly buffering the agonizing pain of loss
Expunging both broken dreams and hearts
Shrouding all the disagreements and battles
Cushioning the relentless creep of old age
With the gentle haze of oncoming senility.
Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge: November 5, 2019: Today’s prompt: Write a piece of prose or poetry with the phrase “ swiftly failing memory” in it

behind the beauty
Proud panoply of multicolored trees
Dark vees mournfully honking south
A certain tart crispness in the air
The languishing taste of autumn
That distinctive odor of fallen leaves
Softly brimming with creeping decay
All these things hint at the hidden truth
The year is silently fading away.

Luminous sunshine radiates down
an electric blue sky vibrates overhead
traced with a fine lacing of wispy white clouds
trees swathed boldly in motley color
vaunt their autumnal plumage
unharvested fields glow golden
skein of geese honking south
soft rustling swirl of dry leaves
a warm breeze gently caressing the cheek
last dying kiss.

Trapped in my ancient fear
Afraid to reach out
Connect to another
Wary of further rejection
I withdraw into the safety of my soul
A fortress of solitude indeed.

I’m issuing a Challenge! I’m starting a new form of Haiku or Tanka, ones that include Emojis. The Emojis are pronounced as what they represent. Why not try one yourself? My example, a Tanka is posted below. Puns are encouraged! I look forward to your entries.
I hear sleet
‘ticking’ Against my dark window panes
, no school again Morning, the alarm clock peals
And the kids come
